Bonfire Notes #001 - Palworld

Updated: Oct 1

Today I've decided to start a new movement in my life: writing about my experiences with all the different games I play. And I'm actually happy to start this by writing about Palworld. A game that mixes a variety of features from games like ARK Survival, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, PokƩmon, Monster Hunter and many more, with a good touch of humor and SO MUCH TO DO!

But I don't want to do this the old fashioned way, where I would review it, rate it and recommend it (or not). I want to talk about my experience as a player, streamer, and as a person who played games since I was so young, that I was playing DOOM before even knowing how to write.

The first time I heard about Palworld, it was a recommendation from an old friend. He said "It's a game like PokƩmon, but you can shoot them and make them work for you!!". The mix of excitement and confusion I felt was very particular. I just HAD to check it out and it was clearly a game to play while streaming. Specially because the pronunciation of the world PAL in Portuguese, means "d*ck". So you can easily see how it's funny to say the name Palworld if you speak both Portuguese and English.

So, I opened the game and I was so excited to start it that I didn't even pay attention to the obnoxious sounds the menu has. Everything you click makes an odd loud sound, but I didn't care... My viewers at Twitch pointed that out for me later though and then I started noticing, hahaha. Creating a character is fun, even though there is space to be even more, but there was I. Pink haired, muscled guy in a tong, ready to start! I took some steps and quickly saw the size of the map. It is HUGE. And the feeling of knowing that you can reach that mountain or a strange tower that is so far away is amazing. The mechanics were simple. Easy to understand! It took no time at all and I was already adapted to how to play it. I looked left and there it was: My first pal! A pack of 4 chickens so ready to be captured. But how? Oh well, punch the hell out of it, lower its HP, throw you 'Pal Sphere' at it and hope for the best…

Just remember that it WILL fight back. And it did. They basically destroyed me and I learned once again the importance of being humble in life. šŸ®šŸ²šŸ š—µš—¼š˜‚š—暝˜€ š—¹š—®š˜š—²š—æ...

Well... 261 hours later, today, almost all Pals captured, 3 huge bases built and optimized for max resource gathering, most bosses beaten, almost max level and 90% of the map explored... I simply can't stop. Is there a way to play it in harder ways? Is there any challenge I can put myself into? What if I play with my friends? I feel like a child that still has lots of hours of the day to play outside with my friends and we are deciding what will happen next. There is so much we can do!

Oh, and before I forget. Yes, you will capture your Pals and eventually make them work for you... but you have to take care of them anyway. They will gather wood for you, mine rocks for you, get ore, smelt and refine ore, help you build equipment, build the base, fight bad guys, fight bosses, defend you against predators and aggressive pals... They will let you ride them, fly on them, use them as shields or even use TWO ROCKET LAUNCHERS and blow the hell out of everyone. All for you.

You see... There are two types of games in my life... Games that I play and games that I just can't stop playing. Palworld is something special. Something else. Simplicity that allows complexity to exist. Palworld is FUN!

What about you?

Have you played Palworld already? How was your experience?

I will love to hear all about it!
