Wayfinders Room #001 - From Criticized Generalist to Confident Pro

Every new year makes me reflect about the year that has passed. I get in this "𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲", where I need a while to revisit all that I did, so I can get a clearer view of where I want to go next.

This time, I was looking at old photos and remembering a conversation I had with my professor at the time. I complained about the fact that I was hardly interested in one specific field or area of study... At the time, I was studying music, while also learning how to cook, having acting classes, and trying to create a website for myself.

My whole being is moved by 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, which makes me go wherever I feel that I can both improve myself as a person and add something useful to my list of skills.

My professor listened to me patiently and was right to make me understand that the market at the moment was focusing a lot on 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 — people who were able to study something specific and master it. But also, there were the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 — people who can learn about a lot of different things, maybe without knowing a whole lot about them, but with the ability to bring different areas together. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages, of course, but the relief was huge when I felt I had a place for me.

It's been more than 10 years since I had that conversation, and I can see now. I won't say that it was easy being someone surrounded by people with the 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 profile, because of the constant:

"Ok... but when are you going to choose something? Like... one thing."

But now that time has passed, and I inevitably continued on the 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 path, I can see how far I got with it. Think about how many artists exist in the world right now. The answer is clear: 𝗟𝗢𝗧𝗦.

If you ask how many artists also have 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, the group gets smaller.

Now narrow it further: how many artists combine 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and more?
